I was taught to meditate over 50 years ago, when I was a young teenager at school and have been actively involved in the meditation space since 2008.
Throughout all the major periods of my life - school, travelling, university, working for a large international company, being made redundant, starting a family and a new business, getting divorced - I have found that the many benefits from meditation have had a direct impact on my approach to people, work and life.
When I was taught I naively thought all schools offered meditation on the curriculum! It was easy to learn and and straightforward to practice, and I know that due to my daily practice my teenage years were less bewildering and more balanced. Later, when I started travelling and getting some experience of life, I began to appreciate its value even more.
Studying at university and starting my career revealed the many benefits from meditation which were having a direct impact on my approach to people and work. In the early years of working for an international auction house, I was rapidly promoted and travelled extensively around the world, working to strict deadlines and challenging targets, as well as managing a busy family life.
Meditation helped me maintain perspective and keep stress in check, and I seemed to have all the energy I needed for my demanding life.
Gradually, in the rush to fulfil my employer’s demands and spend more time with my family, there was less time for meditation and slowly it became a less frequently used technique to deal with pressure, maintain perspective and stay calm.
There followed some years ‘in the wilderness’ when I needed support and encouragement but in those pre-internet days, it was difficult to find and connect with a teacher. Keen to reactivate my meditation practice I was fortunate after several years of searching to come across a teacher who helped me get back on track.
With encouragement, compassion and comprehensive instruction from meditation Masters in the UK, USA and India, I deepened my practice, studied for extensive periods and attended numerous meditation retreats in the UK and India. Nine years later I became a fully qualified Vedic Meditation teacher.
My experience as an employee and entrepreneur, having a family, going through a divorce, losing a job and changing career is not that unusual or exceptional, but my reaction to these pivotal moments was different to most people's when these personal challenges were eased by meditation.
Meditation reduced my stress levels and anxiety, helped me to keep centred, get better sleep and boosted my energy levels. I was able to build resilience and adapt easily to whatever came along.
The benefits of practicing meditation are widespread and everyone experiences them in different ways. It is humbling and inspiring to see the changes people make to their lives when they take the decision to learn to meditate.
With my lengthy experience of meditation and broad perspective on the challenges of life, I am pleased to be able to share my knowledge of this simple-to-learn and easy-to-practice life enhancing technique with enthusiasm and integrity. I am here to help people use Vedic Meditation in an easy and effective way to improve quality of life, and gain access to greater calm, connection, growth and wisdom.
